Georgia

Lead Vocals

My musical journey spans many genres and projects, beginning at the young age of 10 when I received my first instrument. Throughout my school years, I frequently performed in musical theatre and events, but my true passion has always been in song writing. I strive to create music that resonates with people’s emotions, and I continue to do so to this day. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of performing with a big band, collaborating with Simon on the keyboards for nearly a decade, and covering many events from weddings and festivals to Christmas sets. My vocal style adapts to the music at hand; I aim to deliver a performance that best fits each song, whether it involves belting out powerful numbers or using a softer tone for more delicate pieces. I’m incredibly excited about Soul of Georgia! This project not only allows me to explore a completely new genre but also gives me the opportunity to collaborate with talented musicians who bring exceptional skills to the group. I can’t wait to share what Soul of Georgia is all about with the world!

Simon

Keyboards, Backing Vocals

Simon was born in London at a young age and has since played the piano a bit. He has not been in anyone's backing band or even met anyone famous, except for a member of Duran Duran who he was at school with. He did get to record in the BBC Midlands Radio Orchestra's studio once at Pebble Mill, courtesy of Norrie Paramor (true!), which was nice. But that's about it really. Anyway, Simon is thrilled to be collaborating with such talented musicians in Soul of Georgia, delivering what he would like to think is an authentic American sound to audiences in the South West.

When asked about my musical collaborations, I proudly mention names like Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Fairport Convention and many others, all thanks to my extensive record collection which I play along to. I’ve skillfully sidestepped fame and fortune in the music industry, despite being supported by Zak Starkey, performing at the Marquee, and recording in the same studio as legends like Nick Drake, John Martyn and Pink Floyd. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting some of my favourite bass players, such as Dave Pegg (Jethro Tull), Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt), Richard Sinclair (Camel), Martin Turner (Wishbone Ash), and Jerry Scheff (Elvis Presley). My journey with the bass guitar spans longer than I care to admit, and my passion for the instrument led me to launch a retail business called Bass Gear Limited, specialising in everything related to... you guessed it, bass! After a successful eight-year run, I decided to leave my day job behind, granting me more time to indulge in playing music, attending gigs and festivals and proudly sporting my loud t-shirts.

Kevin Thomas has been part of various bands since 1973, steadily building his presence in the music scene. Drawing inspiration from 1960s blues and soul, as well as the 1970s American west coast sound, he plays both electric and acoustic guitars, including slide guitar and lap steel.

With over 30 years in the music business, I’ve spent my life making noise for a living — occasionally even the right kind. From studio sessions to life on the road, I’ve worked with an eclectic mix of artists, including Basement Jaxx, Mutiny Crew, Tears for Fears, Bobby Wellins and Moby (and enough others to fill a very long rider). Along the way, I’ve crossed paths with the likes of the BBC, DreamWorks, Sony/BMG, Channel 4 and Warner Bros. I also have synaesthesia, which means I see colours when I hear music — so I’ve always had a slightly different perspective on the soundtrack of life. Handy, really, when your job is to make things sound good and look colourful in your head! These days, I’ve swapped the session chair for the composer’s desk, with writing credits for DreamWorks, EMI Publishing and Canal+. Still making music, still chasing the next great idea, and still trying to convince people that all those years of playing music really do count as a proper job.''
